The Ardnamurchan peninsula is a wonderfully remote “finger” of rocky land that stretches out to the furthest westerly point of the UK, just to the north of the Isle of Mull, and south of the Isle of Skye. It is accessed initially by a small ferry, and then by a narrow and twisty single track road.
This Western Highlands destination is famous for its outstanding and untouched beauty and abundance of natural resources.
The Ardnamurchan Distillery opened in July 2014 and is situated half way along the peninsula in the small village of Glenbeg. It was designed to both look like a distillery, and also fit in with the surrounding buildings.

Nose: Green, grassy, vegetal. Immediate sense of the Mezcal spirit. This quickly dissipates; opening the door to fresh, crisp, Granny Smith apples. Green bananas. Resilient, ashy smoke.
Palate: Bright, herbaceous, eucalyptus. Chalky, mineralic,seashore essence. Olive brine, salty capers, and flat-leaf parsley. A weighty, fatty dram with an earthy backbone.
Finish: Gentle wisps of integrated smoke. Creamy, sweet aftertaste. Earthy.

Nose: The nose opens with an overtly tropical offering; replete with ripe mangoes, pineapple cubes, lots of honey. There are baked bananas, brown sugar, figs, and wine gums. With time, we go a little deeper into darker tones of crème caramel, toffee, and meringues with white chocolate.
Palate: Oh, hello there, waxiness! The theme of honey continues, backed up by linseed oil, warming spices, gingerbread, fresh pineapple, and cedar. Oily, waxy, showing great depth!

The 2024 ArdnAmerica Tour bottling consist of two peated Madeira finish barriques and one unpeated Spanish Oloroso Sherry Butt. The mixture of peated/unpeated and Madeira/Sherry brings out lovely sweetness and length along some nice underlying Ardnamurchan salinity and peat tones.

Nose: Toasted brioche, subtle ginger, candied lemon rind, fresh linen, red cedar, salted white plum, tart redcurrant, dry-roasted almonds.
Flavor: Blueberry pie with buttery crust, soft and sweet Cherrywood smoke, earthy lemon thyme, coastal grass and heather, pear and apple eau de vie, slate after a storm.
Mouthfeel: Sweet at the start; mild peat mixed with bold salinity in the middle; long, coating with light, welcomed heat.

Nose: Rich and inviting. Notes of dried figs, dark raisins, and Medjool dates. Hints of toffee, orange peel, and Cherry wood; with subtle old leather hints.
Palate: Full-bodied and oily, with a burst of dark fruit compote, blackcurrant, and molasses. Layers of dark chocolate, walnut skin, and spices such as cinnamon, nutmeg, and a pinch of white pepper adds complexity. Viscous and mouth-coating.
