What is Japanese Whisky?

In Japan, the term “Japanese Whisky” is solely defined for purposes of taxation.  Japan’s tax code defines Japanese Whiskey as a whisky that is sourced and bottled in Japan.  The location of the actual distillation is not a part of this definition.

For generations, Japanese Whisky has been composed of a blend of distillates from other countries. From these various component parts, the Japanese master blender or master distiller creates a bottling with an eye toward a particular house style.
