UK-based independent bottler Elixir Distillers is crossing the Atlantic with the launch of two brands on US soil.

In March 2020, The Single Malts of Scotland and Black Tot Rum, selected and blended (Black Tot) by Oliver Chilton, head blender at Elixir Distillers, launched across the US.

They join Islay whisky brand Port Askaig by Elixir Distillers, which is already available across the US along with its new limited single cask US Exclusive expression, Port Askaig 18 yr old.

Single Malts of Scotland

Seeking out the finest single casks of Scotch whisky is at the heart of the Elixir Distillers philosophy. Since 2005 The Single Malts of Scotland brand has bottled a range of superb vintage Single Malt Scotch whiskies selected from distilleries across Scotland for their individual quality and character.

The first run launched in the US will include 10 carefully chosen casks, including bottlings from famous distilleries such as Caol Ila, Imperial, Glenrothes and Ben Nevis. The releases are each limited runs, with casks yielding between 92 and 607 bottles, and will be exclusive to the US market. The intention is to launch two runs of releases per year.

Black Tot Finest Caribbean Rum

Named after the famous Black Tot Day on 31st July 1970 when the British Navy was given their final rum ration, Black Tot Finest Caribbean Rum was inspired by the historical Navy Rum blend, but has been evolved for the rum enthusiasts of today. Following naval tradition, it holds Caribbean Rum at its heart, marrying rums from Guyana, Barbados, and Jamaica and is multi-layered and fruity. In a twist for today’s palate, Black Tot Finest Caribbean Rum is made in a fruitier, unsweetened, and more complex style. It is bottled at a higher strength of 46.2% to ensure it retains all of the flavor and texture of its components.

Commenting on the launches, Oliver Chilton, head blender at Elixir Distillers, said: “Every time I visit the US, I am blown away by the interest and depth of knowledge in regards to single cask whisky and the growing appreciation for great rums that carry more depth of flavour. Independent bottlings of whiskies and rums are getting the recognition they deserve in the US and I hope by sharing some of the amazing casks from distilleries around Scotland, alongside a rum carefully tailored to today’s palates, we can be part of even more interesting conversations and the growing passion for whisky and rum in the US.

The brands will be imported by the team at ImpEx Beverages, who already work with the Elixir Distiller’s Port Askaig range of independently bottled Islay whiskies in the US. Sam Filmus, President and Managing Director at ImpEx Beverages says: “ImpEx Beverages is thrilled to now offer the Single Malts of Scotland range of single cask, Single Malt bottlings, as well as the eagerly awaited Black Tot Finest Caribbean Rum from Elixir Distillers. The first US run of the Single Malts of Scotland bottlings has something for everyone, with a few surprises from very respected and renowned distilleries. Additionally, the historic significance and the sophisticated complexity of Black Tot Rum makes me confident that this will be a new summer favorite for the American consumer this year.”

The Single Malts of Scotland range and Black Tot Finest Caribbean Rum are now available from top distributors and retailers across the US.
